about
Angel Lin is a Taiwanese American editor and writer based in Southern California. She comes from a digital publishing background and has done editorial work on localized media such as Japanese light novels. Previously, she worked on serial fiction and original concept development at Tapas Media as an assistant editor. In 2023, she entered the eleventh cohort of Tessera Editorial’s mentorship program and later joined the team as a copy editor, developmental editor, and sensitivity reader.Whether it is a novel, a webcomic, or a drama, she loves all forms of storytelling. Her favorite genres are fantasy, sci-fi/fantasy, and romance, but she’s comfortable working across all genres. She’s particularly drawn to narratives with underrepresented characters starring as the protagonists, and stories that explore the characters’ intersectional identities.Angel graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a BA in Comparative Literature and a minor in Japanese. She studied at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, for a semester, where she fell in love with the ease of public transit, and all the delicious snacks available. When she’s not working or reading, she enjoys watching anime and dramas with friends, and taking walks in the neighborhood. You can reach out to Angel via contact form or find her at Tessera Editorial.

Q: What are your rates? How much does an editorial service cost?
My base rates are now listed on my editorial services page! For shorter pieces, I require a minimum of $100.
Q: What is the difference between developmental editing, line editing, and copyediting?
Developmental editing is all about the story—an editor would focus on things like the plot, the characters, and the setting. Is the story hitting the emotional beats that it should? Are the characters and world building fleshed out? How is the pacing? Tone?Line editing addresses the writing at a sentence and paragraph level. An editor would look at word choice, syntax, and sentence structure—all to smooth out the writing to (a) make the prose flow better and (b) convey the intended meaning to the readers.Copyediting covers spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Typically, an editor would edit according to a style guide (such as the Chicago Manual of Style) for consistency.
